SPEAKING TASK

Hi everybody! Today I´m going to propose an activity where we will practise the speaking skill in English.

Do you know the game "Who I am?" Well, the activity consists of recreating this game in the classroom.

First of all, each student will have to write an animal, a famous figure or a food in a piece of paper. Then, the teacher collect all the papers and distribute one to each child. IMPORTANT: They will put the paper in their forehead without read it!

From that moment, in order, each player must ask yes or no questions and the other players must answer them to guess what is written on the forehead.

Here you have some examples of questions and answers:

Am I an animal? Yes, you are.

Am I a cake? No, you are not.

Do I have four legs? No, you don't.

In this way, the children will practise speaking with their classmates in a playful way.

  1. Hello!
I have always loved this activity!
I have been playing these games since I was a little girl and I still do today! Therefore, I think it is a very fun activity to teach it to our students.
We can adapt it to our needs, for example, we can create our own posters.
I have a suggestion, we can go further with the older ones and write verbs in different verb tenses and the others have to describe it and then the student guesses it. For example, the student gets the word ate and the others have to explain that it is a past tense verb that is irregular and is used in the past tense. Also, it can be with adjectives.
Try it! you will not regret it!

    Thank you

  2. Hello Armenta and Maria.
I want to tell you that I also love this activity so much since I have developed it very similar with my students in a substitution class and it worked very well for me. Note that it is an activity that encourages participation and creativity and helps students a lot to gain confidence in themselves when speaking in another language. It is also true that the variation proposed by Armenta is very good but perhaps it would be done in higher courses. What do you think?
